Inspecting Map Data🔗

Sometimes, you might want more information about specific data displayed on the map.

Example: On the maps or overlay layers of Waymarked Trails, cycling routes with their abbreviations can be seen. To find out more about the routes, the following steps might help.

In general, all information on the maps from Waymarked Trails comes directly from OpenStreetMap, so it can also be found there.

To find out information about a route (the example here is the route "RK1"), select the map section in Bikerouter so that the route is clearly visible, then click on the "OpenStreetMap" link at the bottom right:

The web view of OpenStreetMap opens in the same map section. Here, you can now right-click on the path on the map. A context menu appears where you can click on "Query features".

Alternatively, you can click the icon with an arrow and a question mark on the right side of the map to enter inspection mode: In this mode, you can simply click on any point on the map and search for database entries at that location.

OpenStreetMap now displays a list of all database contents around the clicked point:

Each data record can be clicked to view the details. In this example, clicking on "Fläming-Skate RK1" provides links to the homepage, the Wikipedia entry, and the Wikidata entry, among other things. In this case, there is enough material to further research.
